It’s a tale as old as time: another cat just climbed too high for their own good. This stranded feline in Colorado Springs, Colorado, climbed on top of a neighbor’s roof, and then ended up being stuck there, for three entire days. The poor kitty definitely had a few rough nights up there, but this story has a happy ending and they’re now sleeping soundly back home.

As per a KTTV11 CBS News story, The Animal Law Enforcement Team with the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region received a call about the rooftop rascal. An “alert citizen” reported the cat, and Officer Long with the Animal Enforcement Team arrived on the scene and spoke with the homeowner. Unfortunately, they did not own a cat, and seemingly did not even know they had an unannounced guest above.

Now, rescuing the cat was more complicated than simply picking them up; a Facebook post by the Humane Society stated that “Officer Long borrowed the resident’s ladder, and once she was on the roof, she saw the lethargic cat crouched behind a vent. Despite being exhausted, the cat was absolutely terrified and did not want to be touched…”

In the end, a carrier with a towel inside was left on the roof and they simply waited for the cat to eventually enter. The officer then brought the cat down safely.

Incredibly, that’s not even the end of the story; a day later, the actual owners had put in a call and were able to verify their ownership of the cat, named Shadow. So, after all was said and done, Shadow was able to return home, no worse for the wear, but hopefully steering clear of strange roofs from here on out.
