When Mariana Wilson and Elijah Saltzgaber’s dog Maggie started fighting cancer, the pair did not give up. Now at 11 years old, their faithful old pup seemed to be losing the battle, and they wanted to ensure that she saw her final days as happily as possible. With the help of an ice skating rink in their home state of Utah, Wilson and Saltzgaber are making sure that Maggie heads to the rainbow road in style.
The dog absolutely loved being in the snow, something which seemed unlikely this year. That’s when Salt Lake County Ice Center stepped in, collecting and transporting buckets of ice shaved from their rink, carting it over to Maggie’s home for one more roll in the snow. Good News Network thankfully shared the pup’s joy and some additional context as to how this happy sendoff came about.
In addition, an absolutely heartbreaking yet beautiful video was posted by SWNS, capturing the old gal holding court over her pile of chilly comfort, resting in her backyard where the snow was transported in her final day. A representative from the skating rink described the moment: “Maggie enjoyed her last morning with her two favorite things, snow and her owners.”
As winter approaches this year, enjoy the coming snowfall a little bit more, in honor of a very good snowdog.
