An “inspirational” 100-year-old school reading volunteer says helping children gives him “street cred” in his village.
Peter Davies, a 100-year-old WWII veteran, is being recognized for his work as a school reading volunteer. Davies began helping out at Dean Valley Community Primary School six years ago after losing his wife. The school’s head teacher, Vicky McPherson, describes him as “inspirational, generous, considerate and thoughtful.” Mr. Davies humbly states that he gets more out of the program than the children do and feels like he’s part of the community.
100-year-old Peter Davies was recognised in the 2023 New Year Honours list for his voluntary work helping children learn how to read.
